My name is Christopher Nickell and I began Rustic Originals in 1993. Initially my intention was to build furniture at a few festivals and make special pieces for friends and family. It has now evolved into what you will see here.

My interest in rustic furniture structure and design stems from my appreciation of our natural environment. I attempt to transform trees into functional furniture while maintaining some of the original features of the tree itself. This allows you to have a piece of "wilderness" in your home. The craft also has a rich heritage, predominantly derived from necessity rather than art. Turning natural forms into useful objects, at its most basic level, has been around since early man.
